ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how well the STOP-BANG questionnaire can identify patients at risk for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and predict challenges in managing their airway during thoracic surgery. OSAS is a condition that can make it harder for doctors to properly place a breathing mask or tube, which is crucial for safe anesthesia. The researchers want to see if this simple screening tool can effectively help them identify patients who may face these difficulties before their surgery.
To participate in this study, you should be between 18 and 65 years old and undergoing thoracic surgery, which involves operations on the chest area. You should also be classified as ASA 1-3, meaning you have a low to moderate risk of complications. However, if you have a history of obstructive sleep apnea, have had previous surgery or radiation on your head or neck, or do not want to take part in the study, you won't be eligible. If you join, you can expect to fill out the STOP-BANG questionnaire and help researchers learn more about its effectiveness in improving patient safety during surgery.
