ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how different methods of providing nutrition affect the psychological well-being and overall experience of patients who have had a stroke. Specifically, it compares two types of feeding tubes: one that goes down the throat (Intermittent Oro-esophageal Tube) and another that goes through the nose (Nasogastric Tube). Both groups of patients will continue to receive standard rehabilitation treatment, but the researchers want to see if the type of tube used makes a difference in how patients feel mentally and emotionally.
To participate in this study, you must be over 18 years old and have experienced an ischemic stroke, which is a type of stroke caused by a blockage in the blood vessels supplying the brain. You should also have difficulty swallowing, confirmed by a specific test, but be fully conscious and stable. Unfortunately, people with certain other medical conditions or those who are pregnant or nursing cannot join. If you decide to take part, you can expect regular check-ins and support from the research team as they monitor your condition and experiences throughout the study.
