ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain features of carotid atherosclerosis—build-up of plaque in the carotid arteries—relate to coronary atherosclerosis, which is the build-up of plaque in the heart's arteries. The researchers want to see if the characteristics of plaque in the carotid arteries, especially those that contain lipids (fats), can help predict the severity of blockages in the coronary arteries in patients who experience chest tightness or pain. Participants will undergo a painless ultrasound of the carotid arteries before having a procedure called coronary angiography, which looks at the heart’s blood vessels.
The trial is currently recruiting participants aged 51 to 328 years of age, and both men and women can join. To be eligible, you need to be someone who is scheduled for both carotid ultrasound and coronary angiography. There are no specific exclusions, so if you meet the inclusion criteria, you may be able to take part in this important study. Participants can expect to help researchers understand the connection between these two types of atherosclerosis, which could lead to better heart health strategies in the future.
