ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called HONEY for the Treatment of Post-Tonsillectomy Pain, is studying whether Manuka honey can help reduce pain after a tonsillectomy, a surgery to remove the tonsils. Researchers want to see if using honey, along with standard pain relief methods, is more effective than using a placebo (a treatment that looks like the real thing but has no active ingredients) along with standard pain relief. The goal is to find a low-cost, natural option for pain management that might work better for patients recovering from this surgery.
To participate in the trial, you need to be an adult, at least 18 years old, and scheduled for a bilateral tonsillectomy (surgery on both tonsils). However, certain people cannot join, such as those with specific health conditions like diabetes or a history of certain cancers, as well as children and pregnant individuals. If you choose to participate, you can expect to receive either Manuka honey or a placebo in addition to the usual pain relief medication after your surgery. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and it hopes to provide valuable information about the use of honey for managing pain after tonsil surgery.
