ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how common iron deficiency is in children who undergo heart surgery. Iron deficiency can lead to conditions like anemia, which means the body doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells, and this can result in needing blood transfusions and possibly more complications during or after surgery. The study will look at the iron levels of all patients who had heart surgery at our hospital from January 2019 to December 2023, comparing those with iron deficiency to those without to see how it affects their treatment and recovery.
To be eligible for this study, patients must have had pediatric heart surgery at our institution during the specified time frame. Unfortunately, those with incomplete medical records or who did not agree to have their medical data used cannot participate. Participants can expect their iron status, blood transfusion needs, and any complications to be carefully recorded and analyzed as part of this important research, which aims to better understand and improve care for young patients with heart conditions.
