ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how a specific treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, a painful condition affecting the face, impacts the masseter muscle, which is involved in chewing. The treatment being studied is called Gasserian ganglion radiofrequency thermocoagulation, a procedure that helps relieve pain by targeting a specific nerve. Some patients have experienced weakness in their masseter muscle after this treatment, and the trial aims to measure any changes in the thickness of this muscle to better understand the procedure's effects.
To participate in the study, individuals must have had facial pain that hasn't improved with medication for at least three months and be planning to undergo the radiofrequency treatment. They should also be willing to have ultrasound measurements taken. However, those who are pregnant, have bleeding disorders, or have infections, among other criteria, won't be eligible. Participants will receive regular follow-ups to monitor their progress throughout the study. This research could provide valuable insights into how the treatment affects not only pain relief but also muscle function.
