ClinConnect Summary
The Gurney Journey trial is studying whether using a virtual reality (VR) program can help reduce anxiety in children before they undergo dental procedures that require anesthesia. The researchers want to see if this VR distraction can make the experience less stressful for young patients as they are transported to the procedure room and while receiving anesthesia. Children participating in the study will be placed into one of two groups: one group will receive standard care from a Child Life Specialist, while the other group will also enjoy the VR program as a distraction.
This study is open to children aged 5 to 17 who will be undergoing general anesthesia with a mask for dental work. However, children with certain conditions, like cognitive or visual impairments, or those receiving anesthesia through an IV, will not be eligible. Participants can expect to be closely monitored for their anxiety levels and how well they comply with the anesthesia process. This trial is currently recruiting, and it's a great opportunity for families looking for ways to help their children feel more comfortable during dental visits.
