ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how well two different antiseptic solutions—povidone-iodine and chlorhexidine gluconate—work to reduce bacteria in wounds during spine surgery. The goal is to find out which solution is more effective in keeping surgical wounds clean and preventing infections. Additionally, the researchers will look into any side effects that might come from using these solutions during the surgery.
To participate in this study, patients need to be diagnosed with a condition called lumbar spinal stenosis, which means they have narrowing of the spinal canal that may require surgery. Specifically, they should be scheduled for a type of surgery called posterior lumbar decompression with fusion. However, individuals who have allergies to these disinfectants, who have had previous surgeries at the same site, or who currently have an active infection will not be eligible. Participants can expect to receive either povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine during their surgery, and the researchers will monitor them for any side effects as well as how well their wounds heal.
