Thyroid Surgery Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Recurrent Laryngeal Nerves Injuries

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying two different techniques, called NerveTrend and NerveAssure, to help prevent injuries to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) during thyroid surgery. The recurrent laryngeal nerve is important for voice function, and the trial aims to see if the NerveTrend technique is just as good as the NerveAssure technique in identifying potential nerve injuries during surgery. The researchers believe that NerveTrend might be a useful option, especially in places where resources are limited.

To participate in this trial, individuals must be planning to have their first bilateral (both sides) thyroid surgery. Unfortunately, those with previous thyroid surgeries, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or those under 18 or over 75 years old cannot join. If eligible, participants will be monitored during their surgery, and the main goal is to check for any nerve injuries the day after the surgery using a procedure called direct laryngoscopy. Overall, this study could provide valuable insights into safer surgical techniques for thyroid conditions.
