ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which is important for regulating blood pressure and kidney function, behaves in children who have sepsis. Sepsis is a serious condition that occurs when the body has a severe response to infection, which can sometimes lead to kidney problems. The researchers want to compare children with sepsis, both with and without kidney injury, to healthy children to see how their bodies respond differently.
To participate, children must be between 1 day and 18 years old, and they can either have sepsis or be healthy. However, children with certain pre-existing kidney conditions or heart diseases, or those on specific blood pressure medications, will not be eligible. During the study, researchers will collect blood samples and perform kidney ultrasounds on the sick children over several days, while healthy kids will only undergo one test. This study aims to better understand how sepsis affects the body, which could help improve treatments for future patients.
