ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a small, portable ultrasound device to help diagnose pneumonia in children. Pneumonia is a serious infection that can be life-threatening, and while doctors usually rely on chest X-rays to confirm the diagnosis, these can expose children to radiation. The trial aims to see if this pocket-size ultrasound can accurately identify the type of pneumonia, whether it's caused by bacteria or viruses, without the risks associated with X-rays. This is important because understanding the cause of pneumonia can lead to better treatment.
Children aged between 1 and 17 years who are hospitalized with pneumonia will be eligible to participate. They will receive regular ultrasound checks during their hospital stay and after they go home, along with standard chest X-rays when needed. The goal is to improve how doctors diagnose and manage pneumonia in children while ensuring their safety. The study is set to begin in January 2024 and will take about a year to complete.
