ClinConnect Summary
The Type 1 Diabetes, Exercise and Mentoring Trial is a study designed to help teenagers with type 1 diabetes improve their emotional well-being and manage their condition better. The researchers are testing a new approach where young adult mentors will work with these adolescents to encourage them to be more active every day. This mentorship aims to boost their confidence and support their overall health while living with type 1 diabetes.
To participate in this trial, teens between the ages of 12 and 18 who want to increase their daily physical activity and currently use a continuous glucose monitor (a device that helps track blood sugar levels) can join. However, those who have had type 1 diabetes for less than a year or have certain health issues, like cancer or an eating disorder, won’t be eligible. Participants can expect to work closely with mentors who will guide them in setting and achieving their activity goals. This study not only aims to enhance their physical activity but also to foster a supportive community for young people managing diabetes.
