ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different methods of entering the abdominal cavity during laparoscopic surgery, which is a type of minimally invasive surgery often used for gynecologic issues. The two techniques being compared are the blunt fascial entry and the Veress needle entry. Researchers want to see how these methods affect the time it takes to inflate the abdomen (insufflation), any complications during the surgery, and how much pain patients feel afterward. They believe that the blunt entry method may allow for quicker inflation times while providing similar results in terms of safety and comfort compared to the Veress needle method.
To participate in this trial, women aged 18 and older who are scheduled for laparoscopic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center may be eligible, as long as they can provide consent and are willing to follow the study guidelines. However, pregnant women, those needing urgent surgery, or patients not suitable for entry through the belly button cannot participate. If you join the study, you can expect to be randomly assigned to one of the two entry methods and will have your surgery monitored closely for outcomes and pain levels. This research aims to improve surgical techniques and patient experiences in the future.
