ClinConnect Summary
The BETA Trial is a research study that aims to find out whether using a special tool called a bougie can help emergency medical teams successfully insert a breathing tube (intubation) more easily during prehospital emergencies, compared to using the breathing tube alone. This is important because successful intubation on the first attempt can reduce serious complications, such as low oxygen levels or incorrect tube placement, which can happen when multiple attempts are made. The study focuses on patients who need emergency intubation and are being managed by a mobile intensive care unit.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be adults aged 18 and older who are in need of emergency intubation and are being treated by a physician-staffed mobile intensive care unit. However, pregnant women and those with certain medical conditions or difficult airway histories will not be included. If you choose to participate, you can expect to be randomly assigned to receive either the bougie or the standard method for your intubation. This study is currently recruiting participants and hopes to improve safety and success rates of emergency intubation in challenging situations.
