ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the impact of "PICU diaries" on children and their families after a stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). When children become very sick and need intensive care, it can be a stressful time for both them and their families. After leaving the hospital, some children and parents may continue to feel anxious or sad, which is known as Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). The trial aims to see if keeping a diary—where families and hospital staff can write about their experiences, share thoughts, and include drawings or photos—can help improve feelings of anxiety and sadness after discharge.
To take part in this study, children under 19 years old who have been admitted to the PICU and needed mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours are eligible. Families will be divided into two groups: one group will receive the diaries to fill out during their hospital stay, while the other group will not. After leaving the hospital, the researchers will compare how both groups feel to see if the diaries made a positive difference. This research could help healthcare providers improve the hospital experience for children and their families in the future.
