ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how blood vessels function in patients who experience a condition called vasoplegic shock after heart surgery that involves using a heart-lung machine. Vasoplegic shock can happen when blood vessels dilate too much, leading to low blood pressure and poor blood flow. The researchers want to understand the relationship between a specific type of blood vessel response, known as NO-dependent vasomotor reserve, and this condition. To do this, they will compare two groups of patients: those who have vasoplegic shock and those who do not.

If you or a family member is between 18 and 80 years old and is undergoing heart surgery with the use of a heart-lung machine, you may be eligible to participate in this study. Participants will have two appointments where non-invasive tests will be done to measure blood flow and the condition of blood vessel walls. The study will collect information about participants' health and treatments for up to three months after joining. It's important to note that individuals with certain conditions, such as severe infections or those who have had a heart transplant, won’t be eligible to take part in this study. Overall, this research aims to improve our understanding of vasoplegic shock and help develop better treatments for patients after heart surgery.
