ClinConnect Summary
The STAYWARM-2 trial is studying a special self-warming blanket to help trauma patients who are at risk of becoming very cold, a condition known as hypothermia. When patients experience severe bleeding, being cold can make their situation worse, leading to higher chances of complications and longer hospital stays. This trial aims to see if using the Ready-Heat® chemical heating blanket can effectively warm these patients during the critical first hours after they arrive at the hospital, making it easier for doctors and nurses to care for them.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be at least 16 years old and require immediate treatment for severe bleeding when they arrive at the hospital during weekday daytime hours. They cannot have been transferred from another hospital or arrived while receiving CPR. If someone takes part in this trial, they will receive the self-warming blanket along with standard care. This could improve their comfort and help prevent issues related to being cold, potentially leading to better outcomes. The results of this study could help shape future treatments for trauma patients at risk of hypothermia.
