ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different types of blades used with a device called a videolaryngoscope, which helps doctors safely place a breathing tube in patients who are critically ill and need assistance with breathing. The trial aims to find out if one type of blade – the Macintosh blade, which has a slight curve, or the hyperangulated blade, which has a sharper angle – is better for intubating patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Both types of blades have their advantages, but it’s unclear which one works better in this specific situation.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be 18 years or older, currently staying in the ICU, and need a breathing tube placed using a videolaryngoscope. Unfortunately, people who are pregnant, need an emergency intubation, or are being intubated using a different method won’t be eligible. If someone joins the study, they can expect to be part of a carefully monitored process to help determine which blade might be more effective for intubation in critically ill patients. This research is important because it could improve the safety and success of breathing support in the ICU.
