ClinConnect Summary
The IMPACT Implementation-Effectiveness Trial is studying how effective a new exercise and education program can be for people with cancer during their treatment. Many cancer survivors experience long-lasting side effects, and regular physical activity can help improve their physical and mental well-being. Unfortunately, fewer than 30% of cancer patients currently meet the recommended levels of physical activity. This trial aims to change that by offering different ways for patients to stay active while undergoing treatment.
To participate, you need to be over 18, speak English, and be currently receiving cancer treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation, as long as your doctor says it's okay for you to exercise. If you join, you will be placed in one of three groups: one group will do supervised exercise sessions and receive education, another group will have virtual education sessions about self-management, and the last group will continue with their usual care. Your experience will help researchers understand how to improve physical activity services for cancer patients across Ontario, ultimately helping more people manage their health better during and after treatment.
