ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the effects of vegetarian versus non-vegetarian diets on patients who have had a condition called hepatic encephalopathy, which is a complication of liver cirrhosis. The goal is to find out if a plant-based diet can help prevent future episodes of this condition, especially since many patients in India are vegetarian and often lack enough protein in their diets. The study is open to adults aged 18 and older who have a confirmed diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and have recently recovered from a previous episode of hepatic encephalopathy.

Participants in the study can expect to follow a specific diet based on whether they are assigned to the vegetarian or non-vegetarian group. They will be monitored to see how these diets affect their health and recovery. It’s important to note that individuals with severe heart or lung disease, certain liver conditions, or those unwilling to participate in follow-up visits will not be included in the trial. This research could provide valuable insights into dietary choices that may improve the quality of life for patients with liver cirrhosis.
