ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of different treatments on plaque buildup in young patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment, like braces. Specifically, researchers want to see how well photodynamic therapy, a special light treatment, works compared to other options like a fluoride varnish and a chlorhexidine varnish. The trial will involve 40 participants aged 12 to 17 years who need braces but don’t have any serious dental issues. Throughout the study, researchers will measure the amount of plaque and assess gum health before and after the treatments.
To participate, patients must be between 12 and 17 years old, have permanent teeth, and be ready for fixed braces, but they should not have had any previous orthodontic treatment or certain health conditions that could affect their oral health. Participants can expect to have their plaque levels and gum conditions checked at the start and end of the trial. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to find effective ways to help manage plaque and improve oral health in young orthodontic patients.
