ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating a severe eye infection known as Acanthamoeba keratitis, which can threaten vision. Researchers at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital are looking to see if artificial intelligence (AI) can help quickly diagnose this infection by analyzing special images of the cornea, the clear front part of the eye. They will compare images from patients confirmed to have the infection with those who have other eye infections but not Acanthamoeba. The goal is to find patterns that can lead to faster and more accurate diagnoses in the future.
To participate in this study, individuals should have undergone certain eye tests between 2004 and 2023 that confirm an eye infection. Specifically, they need to have tested positive for Acanthamoeba or for other pathogens. The study will last for 18 months and will include a total of 151 patients. Participants can expect to have their eye images analyzed by AI software, which will help researchers evaluate how well the AI can identify the infection compared to traditional methods. This research could potentially improve how Acanthamoeba keratitis is diagnosed, leading to better outcomes for future patients.
