ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new technique called Total Underwater Colonoscopy (TUC) to see if it improves the detection and removal of certain types of growths in the colon, specifically flat lesions called sessile serrated lesions (SSLs). These lesions can sometimes be missed during standard colonoscopy procedures, which use gas to inflate the colon. TUC uses water instead of gas, which may help doctors see these flat lesions better and remove them more completely. The trial aims to find out if TUC leads to better outcomes for patients undergoing colonoscopy after a positive stool test for colorectal cancer screening, particularly in Norway and Sweden.
To participate in this trial, you need to be someone who has been referred for a colonoscopy after a positive stool test and has not been diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the last 10 years. If you join, you can expect to have a colonoscopy where either the new TUC method or the standard gas method will be used. The researchers hope that TUC will not only improve the detection and removal of lesions but also reduce discomfort during the procedure and lower healthcare costs. This trial is important because it could make colorectal cancer screening more effective, especially for women, and help reduce the environmental impact of medical procedures.
