ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain markers found in the blood might help predict cognitive problems that can occur after surgery in elderly patients, especially those who are frail. These cognitive issues, which include confusion or memory problems after surgery, can make recovery more challenging. The researchers want to understand if these blood markers can help identify which patients are at higher risk for these issues, particularly those undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.
To participate, you need to be at least 65 years old and have been classified as healthy to moderately ill according to a certain medical scale. You'll need to stay in the hospital for at least three days after surgery. However, if you have certain mental health conditions, severe kidney problems, or are taking specific medications, you may not be eligible. If you join the study, you'll help researchers gather important information that could improve care for elderly patients in the future. The study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to shed light on a significant concern for older adults undergoing surgery.
