ClinConnect Summary
This study from University College Dublin in Ireland is testing a 7-week psychologist-guided, self-help video program called ACT Now GAIN Later for parents of children who have challenging behavior. In a randomized design, families are assigned by chance to either start the ACT Now GAIN Later program right away or be in a waitlist group (no program during the study). The researchers want to know if the program helps parents become more flexible in handling parenting stress and whether it reduces difficult behavior in children. They’ll check progress with several surveys before, right after the program, and again 3 and 6 months later. Primary measures look at parental psychological flexibility and child behavior; secondary measures look at parent-child relationships, parent well-being, and parental confidence.
Who can join and what to expect: eligible families include parents of children aged 3 to 12 years who have challenging behavior. Up to about 150 families may enroll, and the study is based at Longford Primary Care Centre in Ireland. Participants will complete assessments at multiple time points around the 7-week program. If you’re assigned to the waitlist, you’ll receive the intervention after the final assessments. The trial is not testing a drug or medical device; it is a behavioral program. At this stage, results are not yet available.
