ClinConnect Summary
The SIGMA-D clinical trial is studying how to better manage complicated acute diverticulitis, a condition where small pouches in the colon become inflamed or infected. The trial is taking place in various surgical units across Italy in 2024 and will track patients for one year after their surgery. Researchers will collect important information about the surgeries performed, like the type of procedure, who performed it, and any complications that arise afterwards. This study aims to improve surgical practices and patient outcomes in emergency situations.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a CT scan that shows they need surgery for acute diverticulitis within 48 hours. Participants will be monitored for any complications or issues that may occur in the months following their surgery. This study is open to all genders and aims to gather valuable data to enhance care for patients with this condition. If you or a loved one is facing surgery for diverticulitis, this trial could be an opportunity to contribute to important medical research.
