ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring whether baby massage can help reduce pain and increase comfort for premature babies undergoing eye exams for a condition called retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The study will take place in a neonatal intensive care unit in Turkey and will involve a total of 60 preterm infants. Babies eligible to participate are those born before 32 weeks of pregnancy, weighing less than 1500 grams, and who are stable enough for their first eye examination. Families must also give their permission for their baby to be included in the study.
During the trial, one specially trained nurse will gently massage the babies before their eye exams using specific techniques. The researchers will then compare the pain and comfort levels of babies who received the massage with those who did not. This study aims to see if the massage can make the eye exams less stressful for these vulnerable infants. It's important to note that babies with certain medical conditions or those who have previously had eye exams will not be eligible to participate.
