ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how tuberculosis (TB) infection affects the placenta during pregnancy. Researchers want to find out if TB can change the structure and function of the placenta, which is the organ that provides nutrients and oxygen to the baby. They will look at pregnant women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and use a blood test to determine if they have TB. Then, they will compare the health of the placentas and the babies born to women with TB to those without TB.
To participate in this study, women must be at least 18 years old and admitted for delivery at one of the study locations. They should be willing to give written consent to join the study. Women with other serious health conditions or those having twins will not be included. Participants can expect to undergo tests to evaluate their placenta and the health of their newborns, both at birth and six weeks later. This research aims to better understand how TB might impact pregnancy and help improve care for pregnant women with TB.
