ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the genetic factors that might contribute to serious conditions affecting the aorta, such as acute aortic dissection and thoracic aortic aneurysm. The researchers want to understand how certain genes may play a role in these conditions, especially in patients who do not have a family history or specific genetic syndromes related to aortic disease. To do this, they will analyze the complete genetic information of patients who have had surgery for these conditions at the University Hospital Basel.

If you are an adult over 18 who has had surgery for aortic dissection or thoracic aortic aneurysm at this hospital since 2015, or if you are scheduled for such surgery in 2024, you may be eligible to participate in this study. Participants will provide a sample for genetic testing, which will help researchers learn more about the underlying causes of these serious health issues. It’s important to note that individuals with known genetic disorders affecting blood vessels will not be included in this study. This research could help improve understanding and treatment of aortic conditions in the future.
