ClinConnect Summary
The SALT-TILT Study is researching how the timing of fainting episodes (called syncope) relates to the effectiveness of pacemakers in preventing these episodes. Syncope is when you suddenly lose consciousness, and in some cases, a pacemaker can help. However, some patients still experience fainting even after getting a pacemaker. The study aims to understand if measuring the time between when a person faints and when their heart stops beating (asystole) during a specific test (Tilt Table Test) can help predict how well the pacemaker will work for them.
To participate in this study, individuals aged 65 to 74 who are eligible for a pacemaker according to certain guidelines can apply, provided they give written consent. Participants will undergo a Tilt Table Test where their heart activity will be monitored. It’s important to note that people with other causes of fainting, heart diseases, or those who are pregnant cannot take part in the study. This research could offer valuable insights into improving treatment options for patients experiencing syncope.
