ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how different breathing methods used during recovery from anesthesia can affect the development of a condition called atelectasis, which is when part of the lung collapses and can lead to breathing problems after surgery. The researchers want to find out if certain ventilation techniques can help reduce the risk of this condition in patients who are having surgery under general anesthesia.

To join this study, participants need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and must be undergoing a surgical procedure that lasts more than two hours while being given anesthesia with a breathing tube. Patients who are having emergency surgery, are pregnant, have had recent upper respiratory infections, or have certain lung or heart conditions will not be eligible. If you participate, you can expect to undergo routine monitoring with ultrasound to check your lung health after surgery. This research aims to improve recovery and overall lung health for patients after surgery.
