ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Ischemic Postconditioning in Carotid Surgery," is studying a new method called ischemic postconditioning, which aims to protect the brain during carotid surgery. The goal is to see if this method can help improve brain oxygen levels, blood flow, and reduce injury to brain cells during the surgery, which could ultimately lower the risk of strokes.
To participate in this trial, individuals should be between 18 and 85 years old and have significant narrowing of the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain. This includes people with severe blockage in one artery or moderate blockage in both. However, those who have had urgent surgery recently, have certain health conditions, or a history of serious brain issues may not qualify. Participants in the trial will undergo monitoring during their surgery to assess the safety and effectiveness of the new approach, contributing to important research that may improve outcomes for future patients undergoing similar procedures.
