ClinConnect Summary
The LoVE4MUM trial is a study designed to explore a new mobile app aimed at preventing postpartum depression in mothers. Postpartum depression is a serious condition that can affect new moms and their babies, especially if they have limited support. In this pilot study, 64 mothers will be randomly divided into two groups: one will receive standard care, while the other will receive standard care plus access to the LoVE4MUM app, which uses techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help improve mental health. The main goal is to see if using the app can help reduce symptoms of depression and improve understanding of mental health.
To participate in this trial, mothers need to meet certain criteria. They should have a score indicating mild depression, have access to a smartphone and the internet, and be able to read in English or Malay. Participants will continue their regular postpartum care at government health facilities. However, those with a history of serious mental health issues or drug abuse, or those whose infants experienced serious complications at birth, will not be eligible. This study aims to provide early evidence on how mobile health tools can support new mothers’ mental well-being, potentially leading to better interventions in the future.
