ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is exploring the effects of a treatment called Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) on patients who have undergone surgery for ankle fractures. The goal is to see if using this treatment five days a week for ten weeks after surgery can help improve muscle strength in the calf, specifically the gastrocnemius muscle. Participants will also take part in standard physical therapy starting six weeks after their surgery. The trial will measure not only the strength of the muscle but also how well patients can perform everyday activities like standing up, walking, and climbing stairs.

To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be between the ages of 18 and 75 and must be able to give their consent to join. They must also be scheduled for surgery to repair an ankle fracture. However, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, neurological disorders, or those who have recently had other surgeries, will not be able to participate. If you join the trial, you'll be part of a study that aims to improve recovery after ankle surgery, and your progress will be closely monitored through various strength and functional tests.
