ClinConnect Summary
The Program of Health Behaviour Against Cancer (PHeBAC) is a study designed to help mothers who have children with intellectual disabilities improve their health habits and increase participation in cancer screenings. The research is based on the idea that following certain health recommendations can significantly lower the risk of developing cancer. The program aims to encourage mothers and their children to adopt healthier behaviors, such as not smoking, exercising more, eating a balanced diet, limiting alcohol, protecting themselves from the sun, getting the HPV vaccine, and participating in screenings for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers.
To be eligible for this study, mothers must have at least one child with intellectual disabilities who is receiving education at a special education school. The study is currently looking for participants and is focused specifically on mothers, excluding those who have a current cancer diagnosis or are not the child's primary caregiver. Participants can expect to engage in discussions and receive support through telephone meetings following an initial in-person interview, all aimed at fostering healthier lifestyles and preventive health measures for themselves and their children.
