Popliteal Approach Sciatic Nerve Block Regional Anesthesia Foot, Ankle And Toe Amputation

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is investigating two different methods of administering anesthesia to block pain in the sciatic nerve, which is located behind the knee. The goal is to determine whether one method, called the subparaneural approach, is better than another method, known as the interneural approach, for patients who are having foot, ankle, or toe amputations. By comparing these techniques, the researchers hope to find the safest and most effective way to manage pain during and after the surgery.

To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for an amputation of the foot, ankle, or toe. You should also be in a specific health category that indicates a higher risk level. However, if you have certain medical conditions, like neurological or psychiatric disorders, or if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to local anesthetics, you would not be eligible to take part. If you choose to participate, you can expect to receive one of the two anesthesia methods, and the study will be conducted in a way that keeps you unaware of which method you received, ensuring an unbiased evaluation of the results.
