Gut Microbiome Weight Loss Diet

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how different types of diets can help people lose weight, especially by looking at the role of gut bacteria in our bodies. Researchers want to find out if a test that examines gut bacteria (called Gut Metabolic Modules, or GMMs) can help predict which diet might work best for someone trying to lose weight. Participants will follow either a low-carb diet, which is high in healthy fats, or a low-fat diet that includes whole grains, both designed to have the same number of calories. The goal is to see how effective these diets are for weight loss and if gut bacteria play a role in that process.

To take part in this study, you should be aged between 18 and 65 and have a body mass index (BMI) of 24 or higher, which indicates being overweight or obese. However, you cannot have any serious health conditions or be on certain medications, and you should not have recently changed your weight or participated in other weight loss programs. If you join the trial, you can expect to follow one of the diets for a specific period and undergo testing to see how your body responds. This research is important because it could help tailor weight loss strategies based on individual gut health, making weight loss more effective for many people.
