ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective a specific type of ultrasound, called point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), is in assessing a patient's fluid status by looking at a blood vessel called the inferior vena cava (IVC). Doctors will use a portable ultrasound device at the bedside to check if patients have too much or too little fluid in their bodies. This study is important because while we know that IVC measurements can help in understanding fluid levels, most of the previous research has been done on very ill patients, and there’s less information about its use in regular hospital settings.
To participate in this trial, patients need to be over 18 years old and must have a medical reason to have an IVC ultrasound. Additionally, they should be staying in the hospital for at least 24 hours after the ultrasound is done. Patients who are on certain medications that support blood pressure or those needing special breathing assistance won’t be eligible. If you take part in the study, you can expect a qualified doctor to perform the ultrasound, which will help them make better decisions about your fluid management during your hospital stay.
