ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how smoking might impact the recovery of older patients after surgery, particularly looking at a condition called postoperative delirium. Postoperative delirium is a common issue that can cause confusion and memory problems in elderly patients following surgery, leading to longer hospital stays and higher healthcare costs. Researchers want to see if smokers experience more of this condition compared to non-smokers, and they will be examining how smoking affects recovery quality through changes in gut health.
To participate in this study, you need to be over 60 years old and planning to have elective surgery. You should also be in good overall health according to certain medical guidelines. However, if you have severe memory issues, liver or kidney problems, a history of mental health conditions, or are taking specific medications, you may not be eligible. Participants will be asked to complete some questionnaires and agree to the study voluntarily. This trial is not yet recruiting, so more information will be available as it progresses.
