ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether using compresses soaked in Epsom salt (25% magnesium sulfate) can help relieve pain in the perineal area after childbirth. The perineum is the area between the vagina and the anus, which can be painful if there are tears or if an episiotomy (a cut made during delivery) was done. Researchers will compare the Epsom salt compresses to regular water-soaked compresses to see which is more effective at easing pain. Participants will be asked to apply the compresses for 15 minutes, up to four times a day, while they are in the hospital, and to keep a diary of their pain levels and how often they use the compresses.
To join the study, participants must be planning to stay at certain hospitals after a vaginal delivery, even if there is a tear. They should be able to speak English or French and will need to sign consent forms. Some individuals, such as those who have had a cesarean section or are unstable in their condition, won't be eligible. This trial is actively recruiting participants, and it offers a chance to explore a potentially helpful treatment for postpartum pain.
