ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how data from a Fitbit can help doctors detect infections early in children who have had surgery for complicated appendicitis. Complicated appendicitis means that the appendix was not just inflamed but also had issues like a rupture or an abscess. The goal is to see if monitoring the children's activity and health data from the Fitbit can improve decision-making for their care after surgery.
To participate in this study, children must be between 3 and 18 years old and have recently undergone a laparoscopic appendectomy (a minimally invasive surgery to remove the appendix) for complicated appendicitis. Unfortunately, children who cannot walk or have certain health conditions that could affect their recovery are not eligible. Participants will wear a Fitbit to track their health, and doctors will use this information to watch for any signs of infection. This study is currently recruiting participants, and it's important to note that only children and families who speak English or Spanish can join at this time.
