ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a serious condition called aspiration pneumonia, which can happen when patients who have had a stroke and are suffering from bulbar palsy accidentally inhale food or liquids into their lungs. The researchers want to see if using total parenteral nutrition (TPN), which is a way to provide nutrition directly into the bloodstream, can help prevent aspiration pneumonia in these patients while they recover. This study is particularly focusing on stroke patients who are within the first 7 days of their stroke and are over 18 years old.
To participate in this trial, patients must have had either an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and be dealing with bulbar palsy, which affects their ability to swallow. However, patients who are on a ventilator, experiencing seizures, or have other serious health issues, like liver or kidney failure, will not be eligible. Those who join the study will receive specialized nutrition care while the medical team monitors their health closely. This trial is currently recruiting participants, so it's a chance for eligible patients to contribute to important research that could improve care for others in the future.
