ClinConnect Summary
The OK-TRANSPLANT 2 trial is studying how to help people with obesity and chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are looking to lose weight before receiving a kidney transplant. Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to either join a virtual weight management program or continue with their usual healthcare routine. The goal is to see if the weight management program can help them lose weight, which may improve their chances of being eligible for a kidney transplant.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old, have a body mass index (BMI) over 35 (which indicates obesity), and have a significant risk of needing kidney replacement therapy in the next two years. Unfortunately, those with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot join. If you decide to participate, you can expect to either work with a team online to manage your weight or continue with your regular care, while contributing to important research that could help future patients needing kidney transplants.
