ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how certain inflammatory markers and genetic factors can help predict whether patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) will have a recurrence after undergoing a procedure called electrical cardioversion (ECV). Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat that can lead to serious health issues, and understanding who is likely to experience a recurrence can help doctors provide better care. The study will involve 182 patients over the age of 18, who are being treated at two hospitals in Sweden. Blood samples will be taken from these patients before the ECV and at various follow-up points to track any recurrence of AF.

To be eligible for the trial, participants must have persistent atrial fibrillation and be at least 18 years old. However, individuals with certain conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, ongoing infections, or liver issues, will not be able to participate. Throughout the study, patients can expect to have their heart rhythm monitored and will receive follow-up care to check for any recurrence of AF. This important research aims to improve the understanding of how inflammation and genetics relate to atrial fibrillation, potentially leading to better prediction and management of this condition.
