ClinConnect Summary

The CASITOA trial is studying two different types of injections for people suffering from thumb osteoarthritis, a painful condition that makes it hard to use your thumb and affects hand function. The trial will compare corticosteroid injections, which are a common treatment, with saline injections, which are usually thought of as inactive. Researchers want to see if saline injections can effectively reduce pain and improve hand function, potentially offering a safer and more affordable option for patients.

To participate in this trial, you must be at least 18 years old and have a confirmed diagnosis of thumb osteoarthritis, along with pain at the base of your thumb. You also need to be able to read and understand either French or English. If you join the study, you will randomly receive either a corticosteroid or saline injection, but neither you nor the doctors will know which one you got. This helps ensure the results are fair and unbiased. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it could lead to new treatment options for people with thumb osteoarthritis in the future.
