ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Extracellular Vesicle Cargo in Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes," is studying how certain substances in the blood relate to diabetes and obesity. Researchers want to understand why some people have difficulties managing their blood sugar and how these issues improve after weight-loss surgery, known as bariatric surgery. By collecting blood samples before and after the surgery, the team hopes to uncover important information that could help treat diabetes more effectively.
To participate in this study, you should be enrolled in a bariatric surgery program and have a blood sugar level (A1c) of 6.5 or higher in the last six months, or have been diagnosed with stable type 2 diabetes for over six months with an A1c of less than 6.5. Unfortunately, if you are not eligible for bariatric surgery or have a body mass index (BMI) below 35, you would not qualify for this trial. If you join, you'll provide blood samples at different times, helping researchers learn more about the links between obesity and diabetes, which could lead to better treatments in the future.
