ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how well a special type of ultrasound can detect issues with the movement of vocal folds in children who are on a breathing support called noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIV PPV). The researchers want to find out if this ultrasound, known as POCUS, can accurately identify problems with vocal fold movement when compared to a standard test called fiberoptic nasolaryngoscopy (FNL). The trial is looking for children aged 0 to 18 who are scheduled for the FNL test and have had certain types of surgeries that might affect their vocal folds.
If your child is eligible and decides to participate, they will have two ultrasounds of their vocal folds—one while they are on the breathing support and another after they have stopped using it. This study is currently recruiting participants, so there’s an opportunity for your child to help improve the understanding of vocal fold motion issues in pediatric patients. It's important to note that children with a tracheostomy, those over 18, or those with a history of vocal cord problems may not be able to participate.
