ClinConnect Summary
The Brighter Bites/Legacy Produce Rx Program is a study designed to help children who are dealing with obesity. The goal of this trial is to see if a special program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables can help improve the weight and overall health of young participants. Researchers want to understand how this program affects not only their weight but also their eating habits, the food environment at home, and even how often they visit the doctor. They are also looking at how the program might help families who struggle to afford healthy food.
To participate, children must be patients at certain clinics in Galena Park, Texas, and have a body mass index (BMI) that puts them in the overweight category. Families need to live close to the Houston Food Bank and either have Medicaid or be low-income and uninsured. It's important that parents can read and write in English or Spanish to fill out surveys, and everyone must be committed to visiting the doctor regularly throughout the study, which lasts about a year. If families are currently involved in another program called Brighter Bites, they won't be able to join this one. This program is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.
