ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is called the "Universal Test and Connect for HIV Service Delivery in South Africa." It aims to find out how many people who have HIV or are at high risk of getting HIV visit the Emergency Department (ED) in South Africa. The researchers plan to test all patients in the ED for HIV and connect them to ongoing care, whether they test positive or negative. This includes offering a preventive medication called PrEP, which helps people at high risk of getting HIV. The study will take place in two busy 24-hour emergency departments in Cape Town.

To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 12 years old and visiting the Emergency Department. However, those who cannot give consent (like individuals who are severely ill or do not speak one of the study team’s languages, which are English, Afrikaans, or Xhosa) will not be included. If someone participates, they can expect to receive an HIV test and information about their results, along with resources for further care if needed. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to improve HIV care and prevention strategies in the community.
