ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different methods of pain relief for patients undergoing open cholecystectomy, which is surgery to remove the gallbladder. The trial compares a technique called the subcostal transversus abdominis block (TAP block) with another called the erector spinae block. Both methods aim to help manage postoperative pain effectively, reducing the need for opioid medications, which can cause side effects like nausea and constipation. Good pain control is important because it helps patients recover faster and prevents complications such as lung problems.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be between 18 and 65 years old and scheduled for elective open cholecystectomy surgery. They should be in good health according to specific guidelines (ASA I-II) and expect to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours after surgery. However, those with certain conditions like allergies to local anesthetics or severe respiratory issues will not be eligible. Participants can expect to receive one of the pain relief techniques during their surgery and will be monitored for how well it helps manage their pain afterward. This trial is an opportunity to contribute to improving pain management strategies for future patients.
